November 15, 2024; Paris, TN- Over 100 Paris-Henry County Special Olympic Bowling athletes participated in the games at The Bowling Alley, some experiencing the sport for the first time. Jamie Spicer, owner of the bowling alley says she and her husband, Roy, look forward to the Special Olympics each year because it introduces a lifelong sport to students. “We started a youth league this year for no cost to parents so that we could attract young people of all ages into a sport they can participate in together.”
Henry County High School “student buddies” volunteered to help the K-12 athletes as they attempted strikes and spares in their pursuit for high scores. The Bowling Special Olympics has been a part of the Henry County School System’s special education department for over 30 years according to Special Olympics Coordinator, Jammie Adkisson. Henry County may be more familiar with the spring Special Olympics held at the high school stadium in April which includes track and field events. This big event is in partnership with the Kiwanis Club and is a qualifier for participation in area competitions at the University of Tennessee at Martin and the state games in Nashville held at Lipscomb University.
