Henry Elementary School music teacher Kayla Price is animated when she talks about her chorus and band students, “When students can take what they learn here and then use their talents elsewhere, like church or home, it makes me proud!”

Price has been with Henry County Schools for four years and uses music to support academics in her school. She explains her chorus students especially love a song called, “Nifty Fifty” where students sing the names of all 50 states. Her social studies colleagues agree that it is a helpful instructional strategy in helping students remember each state.

A small school of about 350 PK-8 students, it is impressive that the school has a music program that includes chorus, strings, and band. Henry will have six students who will be participating in Murray State University’s Quad State Middle School Band Festival on November 25 where they will play with guest conductors who will provide instruction and enrich their musical education.
