Paris, TN – Have you ever planned a Thanksgiving meal for over 3,000 of your closest friends? The Nutrition Departments for Henry County School System has! Schools served approximately 3,000 Thanksgiving meals to students and guests over a three-day period beginning on November 20. Every school participated and every meal was free of charge to students. Students could invite family and friends to eat lunch with them and 880 guests were served in festively decorated school cafeterias.
Tiffany Latta, Nutrition Supervisor, said the system prepared 582 pounds of sweet potatoes, 582 pounds of green beans, 154 pounds of cranberry sauce, 78 turkey breasts, 3420 rolls, and 68 pans of homemade cornbread dressing with gravy. “We have the hardest working and most caring team of nutrition workers! They’ve been planning this Thanksgiving meal for weeks and have been making cornbread for the last two weeks.” In addition to the Thanksgiving meals, workers also prepared optional meals for those who may not like the traditional meal of turkey and dressing.
Henry County Schools will be closed November 27-29 for the Thanksgiving Holiday.
