Paris, TN- The annual Christmas card contest held for Henry County School System students has announced the winners for each grade band's entries. Savannah Miller, a senior at HCHS wins grades 9-12 while the Director's Choice Award goes to HCHS senior, Jordyn Ingram. Winner of the grades 6-8 is Jayden Zeiler, an 8th grader from Henry Elementary School. Winner of the grades 3-5 is Autumn White, 4th grader and K-2 winner is Kailyn Kirkland, 1st grader, both from Dorothy & Noble Harrelson Elementary School.

"The district office looks forward to the Christmas Card judging each year to get us into the spirit of the holidays," exclaims Director of Schools, Leah Watkins. "We appreciate how seriously the students work on their entries and how our art teachers are able to assist students with their artistic abilities." Students will receive gift cards as prizes for having winning entries.

As seen in the photo, Jordyn Ingram (left) and Savannah Miller (right) display their winning cards for Director's Choice and for the high school grade band, 9-12. Both students are Advanced Placement Art students in Shanee DeHay's class at Henry County High School. DeHay explains that her students only had a few days in class and a little time at home to complete their drawings. Art teachers from all of the county schools enjoy the opportunity for students to create, present, respond, and then connect their artwork to life experiences. Miller states she was inspired by her own Christmas memories as a child and used an old photo of herself feeding a parrot to create the girl who is peering into the snow globe. "I'm hoping to use this piece in my portfolio for my AP requirements."

The Christmas Card contest is a great way for teachers to teach their art standards, for art students to have fun learning, and an opportunity to win some prizes as an added assessment piece for their work. Henry County schools prioritize a well-rounded education which includes fine arts courses at all schools.
