Puryear, TN – Harrelson STEM teacher and BETA sponsor, Marcy Raus is having an exciting year with her BETA club students. Raus took 29 students to the State BETA Convention held at Gaylord’s Opryland Hotel in November and had four students place in the top 5 to qualify for Nationals in June 2025 in Orlando, Florida.

Winning state honors were seventh graders Darby Collins-4th in Cake Decorating; Alora Raus- 2nd in Sculpture and the Tennessee Beta Council's Dale R. Hughes Leadership Award; eight grader Carson Lee Wyatt- 3rd In Digitally Enhanced Photography; and Landon Merrell- 2nd in 7th Grade US History. (See photo left to right)

In addition to her students achieving acclaim, Raus has been selected to represent Henry County Schools as the TN Beta Elementary State Sponsor Elect for the next 2 years and then the State Sponsor for the following 2 years. Raus, along with other state sponsors, will oversee the planning and leading the state convention for over thousands of students in grades 4-12. “It’s going to be challenging but fun,” says Raus. “BETA is such a great thing for our students. They get to meet people outside of their own BETA club and the activities they get to participate in open so many doors to learning new things.”
