Henry County High School senior, Shamya Carson (right) gets assistance from the Bethel University recruiter as she completes her college application during the school day’s scheduled club and college and career meetings. She hopes that she'll soon be calling Bethel home next year.
Carson plans to major in social work. Her interest is not just intellectual but personal as well. Her dream is to be a social worker so that she can one day help other children who may go through the adoption process. "When I was 10, I was taken away from my mom and put in the custody of my aunt and uncle and was adopted by them in August of this year," she explains. "When I was adopted, it gave me the greatest feeling of having a forever home. I want to help other children find a place to call home, a place that is safe."
Carson will graduate in May 2025 and plans to begin her studies at Bethel University in the fall.
