Paris, TN – Families, friends, and staff watched as over twenty Future Farmers of America students from Grove and Henry County High School were awarded the Greenhand FFA Degree or the FFA Chapter Degree in an evening ceremony held at Henry County High School on December 17. Sponsors Laura Moss and Chance Young participated in the opening ceremony which included the current FFA Officers who also brought the meeting to order and governed the ceremony procedures.
“Our FFA members can advance through a series of degrees that are based on their involvement in FFA, their Supervised Agriculture Experience, and community service. The Greenhand Degree is the first degree of their high school career as a freshman. The Chapter Degree is for sophomores and juniors. We have these ceremonies to honor their achievements in front of their families and friends at the end of the semester,” says Moss who is also an Agriculture teacher at HCHS and has sponsored many FFA teams who have won state and national titles.
Also present was Family, Career and Community Leaders of America sponsor Janet Pearce and Grove FCCLA member, Aribela Vannoy. The FCCLA members partnered with the FFA members to provide food and hospitality services for the attendees at the ceremony. FFA and FCCLA present various opportunities for students to gain experience in leadership roles and to serve their community.
