Paris, TN- The Henry County High School Special Education Department hosted a parent meeting to learn information about community services that support adults with disabilities. Dwayne Webb, state director for St. John’s Community Services talked with administrators, teachers, and parents about services that aid with independent living, community integration, and employment services for adults with disabilities.

Special Education teacher, Melissa Berry, scheduled the meeting for her classroom parents to help them plan for their child’s future. Students in her adult living classroom were also in attendance. They prepared and served a luncheon of chili and taco soup, salad, brownies, and drinks.

Webb presented video interviews of adults with disabilities in West Tennessee who are gainfully employed. He also provided answers to parent questions about planning the future for a relative who has a disability. He encourages families to seek more information about programs and services to ensure a person with a disability achieves their highest level of independence. “We strive to create communities of belonging where every person, regardless of ability or circumstances, has the opportunity to have their dreams realized.” He explains that SJCS offers person-centered support, in home care, employment services, and enabling technology that helps those living with disabilities live as independently as possible in communities they love.
