Paris, TN- Senior Blaire Lamon was leaving a zoom meeting with her dual enrollment professor for Speech in the Henry County High School Library when we met to talk about her being awarded the 2025 West TN Star Farmer. Lamon described the process as a labor of love even though the applications, resume, interviews and projects were demanding.

Watching Lamon talk about her cattle project, you realize she loves what she does. “I’ve shown steer and heifers since the 4th grade at Harrelson. Harrelson FFA was one of the first middle schools to have an FFA Chapter in Tennessee. It was great to be able to put that in my application.”

Lamon has shown bulls in the past and won the class in Jr. Nationals in 2023. “It was a big success for me because I bred and owned the calf.” She recalls the thrill of owning the heifer and was responsible for the entire process of weaning, halter breaking, and showing the calf, which is presently her herd bull. Having thirty head of commercial cattle, Lamon’s goal is to grow her pure- bred herd of Shorthorn cattle.

After graduation, Lamon plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Martin and major in Pre-Vet Science. When asked what advice she would give 8th grade students as they register for freshman classes, she offered, “Even if you’re not a farmer, be involved with FFA. It has something you would like. Get out there and push your boundaries!”
