HCHS/EW Grove Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) State winners have qualified for the DECA International Career Development Conference in Orlando from April 26th-30th. Last week in Chattanooga, students competed against 3,500 students from across the state of Tennessee. "We are super proud of their efforts and excited to see them compete at the international level in April!" exclaims DECA sponsors, Allison Evans & Brian Welp.
HCHS student Saul Ramirez said the competition appeared to be intimidating at first but once he focused on the task at hand and he and his teammate worked together, he was able to get over his nervousness. "Working with a partner gives you an opportunity to find out strengths and weaknesses and work together to solve the problem." Ramirez and Timothy Tyler entered the Entrepreneurship Team event and had to role play as two entrepreneurs who wanted to start a luggage rental business. They had to tell their judge how they would start the business and how they would assess it using certain performance indicators. When he was told he moved onto nationals, "I was smiling ear to ear!"
Since its founding in 1943, Tennessee DECA has been "preparing emerging leaders and entrepreneurs" for college and career ready futures.
