Buchanan, TN – Lakewood School STEM Day kicked off the annual One Book, One School event scheduled for April 22. One book is chosen for the entire school to read but the students are kept in suspense as to which book until the title is shared at a pep rally at the end of school testing. It’s an event that not only increases literacy skills but is also a strategy to help students find joy in reading.

Stem Day rotations during Parent Teacher Conference were themed and held clues as to the books chosen for grades K-4 and grades 5-8. STEM teacher, Brandi Besand explains, “STEM Day was a great opportunity to combine different rotations of STEM activities for students and parents to do together. It gives a glimpse into what we do in the classroom.” School Counselor, Carrie Burns added an activity for families to add to the giant friendship bracelet that will lead up to the announcement of the two books.
