Paris, TN – Thanks to a service-learning project through Chewey Jackson’s welding class, the Henry County High School Softball field will have its own American flag at their field, just in time for tonight’s game at 5:00 PM.

“I’m proud of my guys and gals for doing a great job on the pad for the flagpole for our softball field. I’m glad I had a couple of guys that knew a little about concrete because I know nothing.,” he joked. Thanks to Coach Harrison for our forms and everyone that helped us out, including Southern Concrete, for bringing us such a small amount of concrete. Old Glory will be flying on Monday night for our opening softball game,” says Jackson, the Tennessee College of Applied Technology welding teacher on the HCHS campus.

It's amazing to watch the amount of work that goes into erecting a flagpole. Students are able to take skills learned in the classroom and apply it to a real-world project. Student Luke Jackson states, “It feels good to be doing a service for the community. It’s fun!”
